We wanted to say thank you for allowing us to add such a wonderful member to our family. We have renamed Timmy, we now call him Buddy. He is such a sweet dog. He loves to travel with Dad to work, but sometimes enjoys being lazy at home with the girls and I. And of course there's always time to run in the park and get some excess energy out. We are really enjoying him and wanted to share a picture of our family with you. So, I have attached a picture which includes the two most recent members of our family. Our adoption experience was great. Thank you!! Kristin (for the entire Gallego family) June 1, 2006

I lost my wife in July 2005 after a long and debilitating illness and wanted a companion to keep my mind occupied. I have owned 3 boxers over my life time (69 great years) and so was very familiar with their great personality. I did not want a pup because I was not up to the house training task, which does not have to be traumatic, but was just not something I was not prepared for. I saw the ad in the Merc & News so logged on and liked the looks of a brindle pup named Loretta(2 1/2 to 3), BABR Tag 1734, so filled out the form and picked her up shortly after (August 2005).

I have been thrilled with her. She had some training, but needed some reinforcement. I am an amateur trainer and after a very short time she picked up the lessons and now is a real sweetheart (basic obedience commands, no tricks). As you can see from the photos, She seems pretty content with her life as well. My last boxer 12 or 13 years ago was named Caesar so this one, of course, had to be renamed Cleopatra (Cleo for short). She picked up on the name change immediately and is everything (and more) I had hoped for.

There was a comment on the web site that she did not get along with other dogs. I have not found that to be the case. She sometimes scares the other dog since she wants to play immediately but I have observed no aggressive behavior traits at all. I take her to dog parks frequently and she has a ball. Something you might want to add to your site's About Boxers description. I have found boxers to be particularly aggressive with cats. I suspect it is playfulness and not aggressiveness since my wife once had my boxer and her cat sleeping in the same cage. At any rate when a cat is spotted there is never a bark or indication that the dog has spotted the cat, they just take off. When an animal is 50-70 lbs of muscle that can be a real shock. That behavior must be corrected or a pleasant walk can turn into a nightmare.

I was a little concerned about adopting since it is not unusual that the animal has been mistreated or has picked up bad habits. I no longer have that fear and once I get my life a little more together, I am considering another adoption or possibly becoming a foster home for animals waiting adoption.

KCKC Again!
May 5, 2006

Hi Cindy,

I just wanted to let everyone know how K.C. came into our lives. My family and I were interested in adopting a dog, that would be good with children, our 2 lhasapoo puppies and would make an ideal guard dog.Searching through petfinder K.C. caught our hearts. My wife and I were concerned at first K.C. being 2 yrs. old,but he fits magically in our family. He has managed to put a smile on our face everyday. From his facial expressions to his antics. He loves my girls and is very protective. It's amazing how at times he knows what to do before i can give him a command.Just to think that he was a couple of days from being put to sleep. Thanks B.A.B.R. and Cindy for all the help. Keep up the fantastic job.
