Hi Cindy,
I just wanted to let you know how wonderful our beautiful boy is! We changed Bugsie's name to Shadow and it suits him to a tee because of the way he seems to just magically appear behind you or at your side! Really it's incredible the way he has blossomed since the first day. At first he was subdued, friendly but subdued. He didn't eat much, certainly he was hungry but left food in his bowl. He didn't play, or run around chasing a ball or chew on a kong toy. He was comfortable in our home from the start, checked the entire place out and investigated each room.
He loves his throw blanket and matching dog bed and is often on the love seat snuggled in his blanket. He LOVES to sleep on the bed, in the middle of the bed which calls for periodic repositioning (him, not us). He is now sleeping on his bed most of the time so I take that to show he's become more secure in his suroundings. Slowly he's warmed up, he's developed a good appetite and loves his walks, he gets 2 or 3 walks a day. He likes to play tag now.
But this was the break through: the other day I was moving his toys around the living room and tossed his stuffed piggy on his bed; he got up from across the room and picked up the piggy and started play biting and nosing it around. I said "Good boy, bring it here" a few times and he did! I threw it down the hall & he went after it and brought it back to me! Such a little thing but I was overjoyed! I have felt such happiness and joy and love since we brought him home. He plays now, he plays chase, play bites (he mouths a little), and he'll box! Now I get it!
Shadow & I have definitely bonded but to see the bonding between Dennis and Shadow is really something. Dennis loves this dog, he talks to him, cuddles, kisses, (kisses!) and babies him. They play rough house and take naps at the same time! Dennis has learned to feed him and walk him. This is a man who's never had a dog in his 50 years! Shadow is such a mellow dog, he's perfectly content hanging around the house but he's always up for a ride in the SUV; I bought him "Doggles" if you don't know what those are they're sun glasses especially designed for dogs! His are maroon and boy does he look sharp while he's looking out the backseat window catchin' the breeze cruisin' in his ride.
We've definitely bonded and become a family so to speak, we love him. I also wanted to thank you for crate training him as part of your readying process for adoption. We still do crate him from time to time and not having to train that behaviour has been a blessing.
There's so much more I could tell you but then I'd just be bragging, anyway, you've probably heard it all before from other lucky people. I just wanted to let you know how happy we all are. Take care and feel free to share our story with others or to contact me as a reference.
Thanks again,
Darlene Viegas
"Life is better with a Boxer"

May, 2004
Hi Cindy,
In July of 2003 after looking at photos online of another Boxer that
was for adoption, I called to see if he was available. That dog had just
found a home but you had "Morris" who had just arrived from L.A. Boxer
Rescue. Already in my car, I immediately drove from Templeton, CA to meet
this new guy. After playing in the yard with Dewey and bringing my daughter
in her stroller over to him, I knew he was the dog for us.
While I was
signing the papers as more prospective hopeful new Boxer owners arrived,
they all asked "What about that dog? Is he available?" I was very happy to
know we arrived just in time to claim our precious pooch. Almost a year later
I can't imagine what our home was like without him. One of our daughter's
first word was Dewey and he is her shadow.
Dewey is protective of her and
always cautious not to knock her down or take her food from her hand until
it is offered (which is her favorite thing to do). How could anyone have
ever let this dog end up in the pound?! Their loss ... our gain!! Boxers
have a way of bringing so much happiness wherever they go, especially
mine ... well I'm not biased or anything.
Thank you so much for your dedication to this wonderful breed! May
God bless all you do for snorty, gassy, bouncy, happy angels from heaven!

Hi BABR,
I thought you might like to know that Brisco, who was renamed Bear, is doing
just fine here with us in Carson City, Nevada. Here's a picture of him (the
one staring into the camera) with his new sister, Chelsea, with her
favorite toy, in his new play area - our back yard. After 3 weeks together
they are finally starting to play together and chase each other in the back
yard ... it really makes you smile ... and sometimes laugh hysterically to see
these clowns when they get going!
He is a wonderful, loving and loyal
companion to us and our 7 year old son Zachary as well as our Poodle, Trixie,
who's in the background in this picture. He's still really freaked out by
our Cockateils and he really wants to attack the cage occasionally but he'll
get used to them eventually. All in all the adjustment went well and things
are going well. We thought about naming him Clinger because when you're
home, he clings to your side like a dryer sheet, but Bear seemed to be what
we liked more.
Anyway, I just thought you might like to know that all is
well here and thanks for a great Boxer. God - we love this breed.
Sincerely,
Chris, Cassie and Zachary Chausse'
Hi Cindy,
Things are going wonderful with Punkin (formerly Candy). She has definitely
trained us well. She runs the household every chance she gets. She has
changed so much since I picked her up on 3-14. She is a totally different
dog (check out the before picture on the 2004 Adoptions page, tag# 1498! [above, left])
and a true Boxer through and through. Her nickname is Snorfels, for obvious
reasons!! I couldn't love her any more than I already do! My husband, who
absolutely DID NOT want another dog, is in love with her sweet personality
and impeccable manners.
You do a wonderful service and I will never buy
another dog again. Adoption is the ONLY way to go because these dogs so
desperately need love.
Thank you so much,
Tricia

I adopted my brindle boxer Canela
about 4 years ago, and I remember two special things about her when I first met her.
1)Her caregiver at the time said she was a 'pistol' (and what a pistol!!!!)
2) She tooted in the car all the way from San Jose to Vallejo!! What a stinker!!
I fell more in love with her after that, and now my family
and I love her more than ever ... a great addition to our family.

In the fall of 2002, my White Boxer, Elmer, died from mast cell
cancer. Naturally, I was devastated. I figured I would wait maybe a year
or so and then get a new dog.
Within 2 weeks, I was in touch with BABR and
signed up for the rescue program. White boxers are somewhat rare, so I
signed up to be considered for any boxer, male or female, any markings.
The very first one you considered me for was Buster, almost the spitting image
of Elmer. What was amazing was they had almost the exact same temperment and
disposition. I could never have replaced Elmer, as I will never be able to
replace Buster. However, all of the unconditional love Buster provides, and
all the joy, energy, warmth, humor and fun he brings into my life helped
me quickly get through the grieving period. I now encourage all of my
friends to consider a rescue program when thinking about their next dog.
Thanks BABR

Dear Cindy,
It will be seven years ago next month that we rescued our beautiful senior
girl, Bugs from you. She was put on earth an angel. Not a day goes by we
don't tell her that she is the perfect dog and how lucky we are to have her
in our lives.
At the time of her adoption, her bio suggested that she was seven years old.
Her face white with age, teeth missing and worn, thin with poor muscle tone,
our vet said she was a "spent" dog and believed she was ten years old if she
was a day. No matter what her age, she is truly a wonder and deserving of
the title "Silver Boxer." The picture of her was taken last month while she
was enjoying her version of Senior Agility. She loves to show off doing the
weave poles and tunnel (we don't put Bugs on the agility contact equipment
or over the jumps). This grand old lady is still able to jump in the car
and anxious to do so, riding around in the car with her pop is the highlight
of her day. In August, she went to Camp Winnaribbun, a camp at Lake Tahoe
for humans and their dogs, where she participated in Lure Coursing, and just
enjoying romps in the forrest and wading in the lake.
We didn't know Boxers when we adopted Bugs. We didn't know Boxers even
after adopting Bugs, we believed all were just like her in temperment,
therefore, we rescued two more Boxer girls. WE HAVE LEARNED what Boxers are
all about. Though our youngsters have been a challenge and require 24-7
attention to and insistance on 'good manners', we are convinced that Boxers
are just the best, we love every minute shared with our three girls.
Bugs and her Boxer sisters, Citi and Pete, have brought more joy to our home
than can ever be measured. Thank you for introducing us to Boxers and
especially for saving the life of our very special girl, Bugs.
I continue to be surprised that more Boxers aren't seen in Agility. What a
natural sport it is for the breed. It is also a wonderful way to excercise
the dogs in this area where there aren't a lot of opportunities to really
"stretch out" those Boxer muscles and adequately excercise the dogs. Perhaps
people are so use to seeing the Border Collies and Aussie's in agility, they
don't think it is a sport for Boxers.
We have also been amazed at our Boxers on the Lure Course. Pete, our
youngster, could teach the hounds how to do it. Unfortunately, any Lure
Coursing we have found in this area is limited to the hound clubs and Pete
only gets the chance to chase the 'bunny' (a plastic grocery bag) when we go
to Camp Winnaribbun each summer.

Lola (was Winona) adjusted so well with in 24 hours. I am amased how fast she adjusted and became a loyal companion to the family. She loves her twice daily 30 minute walks and plays a great game of fetch. Oh she loves the animal planet and the history channels on TV. She follows my two daughters 19 and 22 everywhere but always wants to know where I am to. I am the Alpha!!
Thank you very much Cindy. There are many who appreciate what you do and you need to hear it more often.

Dear Cindy,
Thank you for matching our family up with Sultan! We were
originally there to see Sir Tyson, but you knew it wouldn't work out for us
and you showed us someone more our speed, Sultan.
Well, you're a great match
maker! He is so sweet. We love him so much! He is doing great. He loves going
on walks and going to the dog park. He is also happy just laying around the
house with us. Like another family that shared their success story, we also
had a hard time with Nor Cal.
We were first interested in Thelma who was at
our local shelter. When I went to give her a second look she was gone. Nor
Cal rescued her. I filled out an application and found out she was in Santa
Cruz with Shea. I emailed her. Her reply was long and I got the impression
that she was nuts. She acted so possesive and stuck up. She totally
discouraged me from adopting Thelma. She made it sound like she was Thelma's
new perfect mommy that does so much for her and has soooo much time and I had
no chance. And I liked her name Thelma, but she changed it to Autumn. I know Thelma would have
been happy with us, but she wasn't willing to give us a chance.
So thank you Cindy! I am very happy that you're there for the Boxers helping them find homes.
Maggie, Shawn, Kaitlynn, Alyssa and Sultan!

Hi Cindy,
Just wanted to let you know that Joe - we
changed his name to Lucky - is doing great.
Tilly and
Lucky are acting like old friends. No doggy
arguments to say the least! They love laying side by
side and today Lucky had his head resting on her bum!
They were basking in the sun and taking a snooze!
I
took some pictures of them and I'll e-mail them to
you. I think Lucky is very happy to be in a home.
Thanks so much for all of your advice, which I am
taking, and for placing such a sweet dog in our home.
We feel lucky to have him, thus his name.

Dear BABR,
Sorry for not writing sooner, but I have been pretty busy since I was
adopted. Aside from playing with my parents, taking a lot of walks, and (my
favorite) eating, I have also done a lot of traveling and have received more
gifts than anyone could ever imagine. Every time the front door opens,
there is a possibility of a new gift for me.
My parents really appreciated my being house trained, so they gave me free
roam of the entire downstairs and bought me a bed - albeit - I prefer to
sleep with them on their gigantic bed. I do everything with my parents. My
dad and I watch ESPN at night after our walks and my mom has taken me to the
mall. I get to pick which car I want to take when we go somewhere; speaking
of my favorite somewhere - I love visiting the doggie treat stores in the
area.
My real reason for writing today is that I think you should help me convince
my mom (dad is on my side) to get me a little friend; preferably a female
friend about two years old. In the meantime, I need to pack my bags - my
dad is taking me to his house on Hawaii for a couple of weeks. Thanks again
for taking such good care of me when I was staying with you and helping me
find such nice parents.
Mahalo,
Burleigh Monroe-Tipton, proud dog of Eric Trostad!

Dear Cindy:
Here's a copy of the picture from your site in 2000 or a little earlier; it will be five years in March that I've had him (or vice versa).
His name was Mac then, but I think in L.A. it was 'Señor'. I changed it to Maximilian as my other Boxers were named after Bavarian Kings/royalty (Ludwig, Adolf).
Here's a different (German language) Christmas card of the now grey puppy!
Fondly,
Jason

Dear Cindy from BABR,
We came to the rescue to look at a lovely girl boxer that we had seen
on line, however when we got there my two boys fell in love with norman.
Norman took my eldest son for a walk and was impeccable, we all fell in love
with him ... Norman came home with us 10 minutes later and ever since then he
has been another one of the boys!!
He loves us all apart from a strange dislike of my son's GI Joe toys.
Thank you very much for your wonderful rescue work, it is truly wonderful!!

Hi Cindy,

Dear Cindy,
We are so grateful for the work you do. Most people only wish that animals
were treated better in this world, but you actually do something about it.
You give of yourself freely to these special dogs and thereby make the world
a kinder and more caring place to live in. Three months ago my husband and
I lost our sweet boxer and were absolutely devastated. We were sure that
our pain would last forever. We were so lost without our sweet angel baby
that one week later we went to Cindy’s house to find another boxer dog to
ease our pain.
There were a variety of boxers there – all good dogs. In
the corner crate, with a blanket over the front of the window, was a large
boxer, pretty much barking continuously and not responding at all to the
water bottle. I had a feeling that this dog was the most high-maintenance
and noisy one of the bunch. He looked like the most trouble, but oh what a
face! That is when we knew he was the dog for us. Our last dog was a
syrupy sweet, overconfident, wild and pushy angel, and we knew that we definitely wanted
that type of dog again!
Our quiet and skinny (for only a short time) big
Dylan drove home like such a good boy that day, and the rest is history. He
has acclimated so well to our lives. He is the sweetest, greatest dog in
the world. We just adore him. He loves all his toys and goes through them
quite quickly (first the eyes, then the squeaker, etc.) He hates television
doorbells, truly believes that my husband’s slippers are his toys, and loves
anyone who comes through the door! He loves all his dog beds, but most of
all likes to sleep right on our laps (a muscle-y 70 pound dog) while we watch
television at night. He is very healthy now and very energetic, not to
mention gorgeous! We are so grateful to have him in our lives.
It is just
amazing that yet again, only one week after we lost our first perfect boxer,
we are again the proud owners of the second greatest dog to ever grace this
earth!
Thank you so much for bringing him into our lives.
